Unceasing Prayer

Good Friday is in ONE week. Every Good Friday we love to honor Jesus by adorning His church with flowers, so bring a bouquet as you come to worship Him.

We missed gathering with you last Sunday, but we hope the snow day served as a gift of rest from the Lord! Be expectant for Jesus to speak to us about unceasing prayer through Pastor Ben this Sunday!

We're thankful that we could gather Wednesday night to worship and pray together at Prayer & Praise! Church, we want these monthly prayer gatherings to be one of the sweetest days of the month for our church. Plan to join us next month on April 15th for the next one!

March Members Meeting

As a reminder, the Members Meeting is rescheduled for this Sunday, March 22nd at 5 PM. We're looking forward to discussing the direction we're heading as a church.

Ministry in Uppsala, Sweden

Last week, some of our members partnered with Cru and spent time at Uppsala University having conversations with students! Through these conversations, they learned more about Swedish culture and how students view things like God, good and evil, death, and the like-and, when the opportunity arose, were able to share the Gospel and the reason for their hope (1 Peter 3:15).

With a reputation for being one of the most secular and individualistic countries in the world, less than 5% of the population are Bible-believing Christians. Only 15% of members of the Church of Sweden profess faith in Jesus, and only around 2% attend church weekly.

Please pray for the students who were ministered to by these members last week, and that the seeds that were planted would grow!

An update on Community at Vertical

This class is designed to cast vision for the kind of life-on-life communities we believe God is calling us to build-marked by lots of Gospel, lots of safety, and lots of time. You'll learn what this kind of community looks like and be invited into clear next steps for joining or helping start one. This will be followed by Community Launch a month later, where those interested in beginning a group will be trained more practically.

Jesus is Coming Soon

We made our way to the end of Revelation last Sunday. What a profound journey it has been! We saw in Revelation 22 that Jesus is coming soon, and that's where we can place our hope.

5 members of Vertical Church are leaving for Sweden today! They are partnering with Cru, a campus ministry, to share the Gospel on college campuses surrounding Uppsala, Sweden.

Please take time to pray for David Huffman, Matthew Damhoff, Brynn Lee, Hannah Hunhoff, and Ethan Erickson as they seek to share Jesus! Pray for the hearts of the students they will encounter.

Vintage Conference 2026

Some of our pastors, elder candidates, staff, & spouses were equipped and encouraged at Vintage Conference last week.

We spent time praying, vision casting, and re-centering our hearts, hope, and focus on Jesus. We're SO grateful for how God used our time together and are so expectant for all that He is going to do at Vertical as we move forward with our eyes fixed on Him.

Congregational Meeting Recap

Last weekend's congregational meeting was not easy, but the Lord seemed to do a deeply unifying work through it. In a moment that could have deepened division, there seemed to be a genuine spirit of humility and repentance, and a growing sense of unity. We saw tears, listened to concerns, prayed prayers, and ultimately witnessed a church family leaning toward one another rather than away.

So many of you have reached out since with words of encouragement and a sincere desire to help as we move forward together as a church family. Thank you. Truly.

We are working on scheduling a members' meeting in the coming weeks to follow up as needed and continue moving forward together. Our hope is not merely to "move on," but to move forward - anchored in truth, unified in the Spirit, and with our eyes on the Chief Shepherd who will faithfully lead us Home.

Grateful to be growing in grace alongside you.

The World Seduces; The Lamb Saves

This past Sunday, Pastor Chris led us through Revelation 17. Through the Spirit, we saw that we are being enchanted by the things of this world. But the works of darkness are exposed as we come to understand that everything this world promises, is delivered in Jesus.

It's easy to see that many people around us are hurting and in need of care. Our hope is that Jesus is the answer to a hurting city filled with hurting people. We want to encourage you to serve, and rally others to serve with you, if this is something the Lord has put on your heart. We deeply value the ministry of our church members and the ways God works through each of you. Scripture reminds us that when we care for others, we are serving Him (Matt. 25:40)

The Good News Of God's Wrath: Revelation 15 & 16

This past Sunday, we journeyed through Revelation 15 and 16, where we saw the reality of God's judgment and wrath on unrepentant sin. We also saw the gospel reality that, for those who trust in Jesus, all wrath has been finally and forever poured out on Jesus, and no condemnation remains on us.

Unafraid Witness

We have no need to fear people, pain, death, or hell. Why?

Because Jesus has triumphed and Satan has lost. Last weekend, we saw in Revelation 11 that because of who Christ is and what He's done on our behalf, we can live fearlessly until the day He comes and envelops us in His glorious presence.

We will be taking a rest from services on Sunday, December 28th. Please use this morning to spend time in the Word and in worship with your families, friends, or communities!

Christmas Eve Services

Christmas Eve is next week! We invite you to come and celebrate the birth of our Savior on Christmas Eve with classic Christmas carols and a cookie potluck!

There will be two services: 3pm and 4:30pm. We'd love for everyone to have a treat, so please bring a dozen cookies or Christmas treats to share, with a notecard describing what they are!

Childcare will be available for ages 6 months-3 years at both services.

With winter approaching, it's clear to see there are many in need of basic necessities. One way to love those experiencing poverty in our communities, is to make care packages! We encourage you to grab your MC, or other friends from Vertical, and pack some bags you can store in your car.

The Throne Through The Window

Revelation 4 gave us a window into ultimate reality-the throne room. On the other side of our circumstances, on the other side of chaos, Jesus is seated on the throne, sovereignly ruling and reigning. Whatever situation we find ourselves in, Jesus is enthroned over it.

Letter To The Lukewarm

Last Sunday, we read the last letter in Revelation 3:14-22. These words called us out of spiritual lukewarmness so that we might fully live in the purpose God has called us to. Jesus left us with a sweet reminder that He stands outside the door of each of our hearts, knocking with a desire to fellowship with us.

Elder Affirmation: Matt Moore & Ben Hacker

We are pleased to announce that Matt Moore and Ben Hacker have been officially affirmed as elders of Vertical Church!

Matt Moore has been affirmed as our Executive Pastor and Ben Hacker has been affirmed as our Worship Pastor. Over the last few months, both Matt and Ben have faithfully served Vertical Church with their specific gifts and have loved and led the body of believers. Their character is consistent with Paul's qualifications for elders in 1 Timothy 3 and their faith and love for the Lord is evident in all that they do. We are immensely grateful to the Lord for giving us Matt and Ben to help lead us in making disciples of Jesus Christ at Vertical Church!

Power For The Powerless

Last Sunday, we opened our Bibles to read Jesus' message to the church in Philadelphia. He acknowledged their powerlessness, and in doing so, He's saying to us, "I know your weakness." No follower of Jesus is immune to weakness. Though it seems like a setback, it actually becomes the conduit for God to display His immense strength and power in our lives.

Waking Up To Jesus

Last Sunday, we read the letter to the church in Sardis where Jesus called them to wake up. In the same way, Jesus is lovingly calling each of us to wake up and remember the Gospel and the Spirit we have received. Suffer Well

In Revelation 2:9, Jesus begins his address to the church Smyrna by saying, "I know your tribulation..." And He is speaking these same words to us today-He knows our suffering. What a comfort that is to the believer! Jesus knows the weight you're carrying, has a purpose in it, and will give you the grace to remain faithful even to the end.

Returning To Our First Love

Revelation 2:1-7 called us not into more works, but to return to the love we had at first. And how do we return to the love we had at first? Do what you did when you first fell in love with Jesus. Sing to Him. Soak in His presence. Rejoice over His Word. Believe that He loves you with a steadfast, unchanging, and unending love.

Please DO NOT park in Mitchell-Hamline spots with signs. This has been happening over the past few Sundays, and we need to respect the requests of Mitchell-Hamline. We understand parking can be tight on Sundays, so we continue to encourage you to add extra time to your commute and use street parking when necessary. Thank you for helping us maintain an honorable relationship with Mitchell-Hamline!

Prayer & Praise Gatherings

Prayer is the foundation of Vertical Church-we want it to be our first resort, not our last. We're calling our church family to devote one evening a month to pray and praise Jesus together beginning next Wednesday, Oct 1 from 6-8pm

Real Revival

How do you experience real revival? Through the manifest presence of God Himself.

1. Repent for trying to replace God (vv. 1-6)
2. Prioritize prayer (vv. 7-11)
3. Recognize what makes you distinct (vv.12-16)
4. Take refuge in the rock (vv. 17-23)
5. Behold your God (vv. 34:5-8)

Chapel at UNW

Pastor Chris is serving UNW as the Campus Pastor again this year! UNW had their first chapel this past Wednesday and the presence of Jesus filled the room.

Make a Missional Move

The fall is almost here, and that means many of our beloved college students will be returning, or coming to Vertical for the first time! Because of this, we're asking members and regular attenders to make a missional move and come to either the 8 or 11 AM services to make room for new people to come to our most-attended service.

Suffering In The Arms Of Mercy

Last Sunday, Matt Moore gently led us through 2 Corinthians 1:3-4. Through reflection on the text, we saw that though Paul was covered in all kinds of visible and invisible scars, bearing on his body and soul the marks of great pain, he could authentically raise his hands and bless God in his sufferings, because in his sufferings,
God had blessed him.

Brother or sister-those of you in Jesus Christ-wherever you are, whatever
you're going through...the Father of Mercies is standing at the ready, eager to
console you, to meet you in your sorrow with his joy, to speak tenderly to you,
and breathe courage into your discouraged heart.

Following God To The Good Life

What is "the good life?"

Maybe your idea of the "good life" has looked like:
- A marriage overflowing with love and laughter
- Kids who are happy, healthy, and love Jesus
- A successful, meaningful career
- Days without sadness or anxiety
- A lifetime of answered prayers

If you believe the "good life" is possible, and you assume God wants you to have it too, when life is filled with so much NOT good, it's easy to draw one conclusion: Maybe God isn't good.

Even the most prominent priest in Israel, Asaph, knew what it was like to question the goodness of God. In Psalm 73:2 he says, "But as for me, my feet had almost stumbled, my steps had nearly slipped." So, what do we do when our experiences don't match what we thought a good God and a good life were "supposed" to look like? We realize we haven't been going to God to get God.

Most of us begin the Christian life assuming we can use God to get our version of the good life, but then He will bring us into darkness, into depression, into dissatisfaction, into suffering, to show us that He is everything we want. Christian, go to God to get GOD HIMSELF.

So, what is the "good life?"
The good life is being near the good God.

This fall, Vertical Church is launching a Mentorship Ministry that will run from October through May! Our hope is that this ministry will help both men and women grow deeper in their walk with Christ through meaningful, intentional, and Gospel-centered relationships.

The Mentorship Ministry will connect individuals in every-other-week meetings focused on spiritual growth through prayer, Scripture, and life-on-life discipleship.

Who can be a mentor?
Many people assume they need to have all the answers before mentoring someone, but that's simply not true. We believe that if you're just one life stage ahead of someone, you're in a position to lead. You don't need to have it all figured out, just a heart that's willing to point others to the One who does: Jesus.

If you feel called to disciple others, we encourage you to consider serving in this way. Jesus will equip you, and we'll provide training and resources to support you along the way.

How does it work?
To get started, simply fill out the form linked below. Once we've received your responses, our team will prayerfully and intentionally match mentors and mentees. You'll be connected with your partner in October to begin your journey together.
